Built From Solid Acacia — and Shaped to Stand

Acacia is a dense hardwood, the same timber used for butcher blocks and outdoor furniture. Each panel is solid wood in a warm walnut finish — no particleboard core, no veneer to lift at the corners — and scuffs sand out instead of peeling off.

The panels pivot on brass-finish hinges set into metal hardware, not screws driven straight into soft wood. The hinges hold an angle rather than drifting back toward a straight line, so the run keeps the shape you give it.

That shape is what makes a freestanding gate stand. Set the panels in a shallow zig-zag and every bend braces the run — the wider you go, the steadier it gets. Bring the end panels to a wall or a sofa and the whole span settles in. And at 24.5 pounds of hardwood, the run has real weight holding it down.

The walk-through door travels with whatever shape you build. Set up as a pen, it swings open for feeding, floor cleaning, and pick-ups — no lifting a panel out of the way and no stepping over the top.

Walk Through It Instead of Stepping Over It

A 24-inch gate is easy to step over the first three times a day and tiring by the tenth. It stops being an option at all when your hands are full of laundry, or when your knees, hips, or back have opinions about it. This one has a door built into the run, with a latch that releases one-handed and a panel that swings clear so you can walk straight through. The door panel measures 24 by 17.75 inches — a full, natural step through, not a squeeze.
